The cover should convey the tone of the book, I agree. Many of the covers I see on goodreads and Amazon look awfully similar, though. Dark backgrounds with one large image...usually a character featured predominately. Since my book, The Promise of Fate, has several characters, I can't really pick a character. The first set of covers where awful. Wish I'd known back then how they'd look when reduced down to the size of a postage stamp. Couldn't read them at all. And I think, like a frame on a fine painting, it can make all the difference.
